WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7KOs) is very excited about facing Adrien Broner (26-0, 22KOs), the WBC's lightweight champion, on June 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
BoxingScene.com: Thoughts on The Fight:
"It's exciting. I think it's a fight a lot of people are going to be looking forward to and I think it's a fight that a lot of people will be hyping. It has poetntial for a lot of fireworks, a lot of press, a lot of coverage, a lot of crazy antics from me and Adrien. We're always talking a lot and we our shticks with our gimmicks. I think between all that, and putting on a great fight, I think it will be a great event."
BoxingScene.com: How The Broner Talks Began:
"I first got an email from Dave Itskowitch of Golden Boy, asking me if I was interested in a Broner fight. At first I was like 'are they serious' because he's only a lightweight. So I said '[I'm] not [interested] if I have not lose more weight' because I came up to welterweight and I'm staying at welterweight. They said 'no, [the fight is] at welterweight.' I told them to make me an offer and from there it just built momentum.
BoxingScene.com: Confident of Victory:
"I'm very confident in my ability to beat him. I'm not saying he's not a good fighter, but I think there are weight classes for a reason and I think that's one of the reasons that he's going to have a problem with me. And also other reasons as well. Adrien is going to fight a person who has a lot of character, who is going to come to fight no matter what. I try to make adjustments the best I can and I come to win every time out. I don't think he's seen that yet. He's not going to win this fight on talent alone. He's going to have to think in there and I don't think he's had to do that yet."
BoxingScene.com: Not Being Impressed With Thurman:
"I'm not saying he's a bad fighter. I just dont think that he's ready to fight a crafty guy, because he's another guy who won over guys who were tailor-made for him. He hasn't had to think through any of his wins either. I dont think he's even the thinker that Adrien is. I think Thurman is pretty limited. He throws these hard punches but he;s pretty limited. He's not very creative. And he's not the most naturally gifted. He's a little clumsy on his feet. His decision making does not impress me either considering the stiffs he's got in front of him. He's 24-0 or whatever his record is and he should be that record, because 99% of pro boxers would be undefeated if we fought those guys."
