BoxingScene.com recently caught up with former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi who is scheduled to face Orlando Lora on the Bernard Hopkins versus Chad Dawson televised pay-per view-undercard. The fight takes place on October 15th at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California.
Malignaggi's often injured right hand has healed and he is now in camp preparing for Lora.
"I just finished up at the gym. Training camp has just started but it is going great," stated Malignaggi.
Devon Alexander and Malignaggi have engaged in a war of words on BoxingScene and on Twitter in recent weeks. Both fighters were hopeful that they would meet in year-end clash, but with the premium networks lacking both dates and funds the fight has been put on hold. That didn't stop Malignaggi from taking another shot at Alexander. The New York native has repeatedly stated that Alexander has been the recipient of hometown decisions in his fights against Andriy Kotelnik and Lucas Matthysse.
I asked the Magic Man if he was still interested in facing Alexander after the Lora fight and he said - "Obviously Devon is a main target but I am interested in any big fight. Devon's got a lotta balls but I hope he realizes that in New York guys from St. Louis don't get any gifts (laughing)."
