This past Monday, Floyd Mayweather changed his initial plea of not guilty in his misdemeanor assault case and pleaded no contest to charges that he assaulting a West Side tavern worker in 2003. The plea of no-contest has stunned Arturo Gatti promoters Main Events who are worried that the upcoming June battle between Gatti and Mayweather could be in jeopardy. Mayweather faces up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine when he is sentenced on March 11th.
The problems don't end there for Mayweather, he still faces trial on Aug. 1st in Las Vegas on third-offense felony domestic battery from an incident which is alleged to have taken place on Dec. 27, 2003.
This is Mayweather's 5th assault conviction in less then 3 years.
"We are stunned and are in complete befuddlement about what has happened. Arturo will be in the ring June 11, whether Mayweather is or not." said Main Events attorney Pat English.
