Judge Claudio Bermudez from the Civil and Commercial district court of the fourth nomination in Santa Fe, has ordered a garnishment of Marcos Maidana's purse for the upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The judge issued the order in connection to claim that was filed by Maidana's old Santa Fe trainer Guillermo Serra.
Serra served as a coach for Maidana for only a year and a half, from mid-2004 until December 2006. Yet Serra now reappears and claims he has a managerial contract from 2008 to 2016.
"It's an unbelievable situation. In reality, Serra never served as the manager of Maidana, much less, since 2008, as stated in his complaint, and Chino hasn't seen his face since 2006. Seven years later, Serra presented a contract to the judge, signed in 2004, which not only was never entered into force - it also has a number of irregularities," said Sebastián Contursi, adviser to Maidana.
"Serra filled in a space that was originally left blank and was intended to establish the effective date of the contract. He inserting another date to make it believed that the alleged contract was taking effect in 2008 instead of 2004, and would last until 2016. This is obvious."
"It is unfortunate that the court decided to grant [his claim] without further action, ordering a seizure with a baseless judgment demonstrating a minimum analysis to justify the origin of the claim. This will end badly, hurting a popular idol just as he is weeks away from one of the most important world events of recent years to an Argentine athlete."
Maidana's legal adviser added:
"Obviously this is a presentation of forged documents in an attempt to mislead the court in the immediate, without the right to obtain a hold on the purse of Maidana.... probably [done] to negotiate a future payment of any sum in exchange for the lifting of the order," said Dr. Carlos Alberto Pujol.
"Obviously, none of that will happen, because the application filed by Serra will not withstand scrutiny. The embargo is provided without subjection to the conditions and minimum requirements by procedural law."
