Highly ranked welterweight contender Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) is hoping that Golden Boy Promotions will finalize an agreement for a match with the new WBA champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KOs), who on Saturday night moved up by two weight divisions to capture his title from veteran Paulie Malignaggi at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes both boxers, is very interested in having the two of them fight each other.
"Many say that Broner is the new Mayweather and now he is the WBA welterweight champion. Then I want to fight him. Everybody knows that I do not talk much. I'm the complete opposite of Broner. In the ring we can see who speaks better. Hopefully they make that fight because I want to be welterweight champion this year, and although I know that Broner is a great fighter and has talent, I have the same qualities. It would be a tough fight, but I also know that I can knock him out," Maidana said.
