The junior welterweight world champion of the World Boxing Association, Marcos "El Chino" Maidana, continues to train in his home province for a comeback fight on Friday September 23 at German Villa Ballester in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Following the cancellation of his fight against Robert Guerrero, who suffered an injury,  Argentina's Maidana made clear one thing - his desire to get in the ring as soon as possible.

"As everyone knows, we had a hard training camp that lasted almost three months, between Argentina and Puerto Rico. But the fight was cancelled by Guerrero and I was disappointed. Now I'm going to return on Friday the 23rd," said Maidana.

"We returned to Argentina and focused our camp in Rafaela, although we train in Sunchales, which is very close, with the support of ATILRA. The truth is that I've been ready [to fight] for a while, so now we are only doing maintenance work."

"It will be very nice to fight again before my people. Especially before the people in my neighborhood because I lived in Villa Ballester since I was 15 or 16. I thank the Municipality of San Martín, who gave us great support. I believe the stadium will be full because, and I thank God for this, the people are always by my side."

As for the opponent, an opponent will be announced this week.

"It was not easy to find an opponent for El Chino. Most of the potential opponents were not available for one reason or another. And others required a lot of money, something that can not be paid in Argentina. The truth is, we have almost closed [a deal] with an opponent, but we will announce [who it is] when all of the contracts are signed," said Sebastián Contursi, advisor to Maidana.
