Before a crowd of 15,000 fans at Luna Park in Argentina, Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KOs) won a unanimous twelve round decision over veteran Demarcus Corley (37-14-1). The scores were 117-110, 115-112 and 117-110 for "El Chino." Maidana looked strong but a cut above his right eye and fatigue in the late rounds complicated the fight. Maidana became nervous because he wasn't sure of the cut's serious nature and thought his fight with Corley, and a potential December fight with WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan, were hanging in the balance.
"Corley never hurt me with any of his punches. I worried about the cut. It was the first time that I was ever cut in my career. It complicated things and I was very nervous. I dedicate this fight for everyone in Argentina and my family," Maidana said.
When asked about his plans, Maidana replied that "Amir Khan was next." He said his management and promoters, Golden Boy Promotions, were trying to put the fight together for December 11.
