Junior welterweight contender Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27KOs) has officially announced that he hired Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain to train him for the fight on April 9 against former three division champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35KOs), which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Beristain is the trainer of WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who was initially set to fight Morales, but later withdrew after a contract dispute with Golden Boy Promotions.
"An agreement was reached and my new trainer will be Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain. We'll travel to Mexico on Saturday to start with him. I'm excited to have the chance to work with a world class and experienced trainer like Nacho. I want to keep learning and bettering myself. We'll set the training camp at the famous La Romanza gym and we'll also work in the heights of Toluca. I always admired Mexican boxing. Beristain has trained the likes of Finito López, Juanma and Rafa Márquez, Daniel Zaragoza, Gilberto Román, and la Chiquita González," Maidana said.
