Unbeaten super bantamweight contender Jessie Magdaleno (27-0, 17 KOs) made his professional debut in 2010 with a victory over Matthew Salazar at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
For Mexican-born fighter who grew up in Pomona, these past six years have been a mixture of feelings.
On November 5th, he will be looking for his first world title when he takes on the super bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Nonito Donaire (37-3, 24 KOs). The contest will be part of the Top Rank pay-per-view where Manny Pacquiao faces Jessie Vargas in the main event.
Magdaleno has an unbeaten record in 23 fights, but he will face an opponent who faced some of the very best boxers over the last few years - such as Nicholas Walters, Vic Darchinyan, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jorge "El Travieso" Arce, among others.
Even with the vast gap in experience, Magdaleno believes Donaire's time in the sport has passed. He feels Donaire is a physically spent fighter who put his body through a lot of wars over the years. Magdaleno feels confident that all of his attributes will be too much for Donaire to handle.
"It's a big fight for me. It's is something I've dreamed about since childhood," said 24-year-old fighter to Hoy Deportes.
"I'm younger in this fight, I think I'm hungrier than him in this fight. He's fast, but I'm faster. I think this is my time and that will be the difference. I'm also facing a great fighter, and that will give me motivation. I want to retire him from the sport."
