BoxingScene.com recently reached out to super featherweight contender Diego Magdaleno (23-1, 9KOs) to get an update on his career. Magdaleno lost a split decision to Rocky Martinez in April and is currently vacationing in the Caribbean.

Magdaleno confirmed reports that he parted ways with his long time managers Pat and Dawn Barry [Pat Barry was also Diego's trainer]. Magdaleno had worked with them since his amateur days but felt that it was time to take his career in a different direction.  He said that he spoke to veteran trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad but that he hadn't made any decision yet.

"I'm at a new level in my career now. I want to grow as a fighter and keep learning the sport. I did speak with Eddie after speaking my peace with the Barry's and it went well but I did say I'm not completely done with my search for a new team. I'm keeping my options open since I have the chance to explore my options," Magdaleno told BoxingScene.com.

Diego's younger brother Jessie is a blue chip super bantamweight prospect and is managed and trained by the Barrys. Diego insisted that he made his decision on his own and said that it won't affect his brother and that they each make their own decisions.

"We both agreed that this decision I made won't affect him and to keep focused. I probably won't be in the gym with him all the time but when I have the chance to workout with him I will. 100% I have his back no matter what," Magdaleno stated.

In closing he said that he plans on meeting with Top Rank in the next few weeks
to work on his next fight and career path.
