Plans appear to be moving forward for the Feburary doubleheader that will feature lightweight star Amir Khan in the main event, with trainer Freddie Roach likely working his corner for the first time. In the co-headliner, Enzo Maccarinelli will try to become a two-time champion when he goes for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title against Johnathon Banks. The exact date and venue has yet to be finalized.
The Macca-Banks clash was scheduled to take place on December 6, but Banks was hit with an ankle injury and withdrew at the late hour. Macca was forced to have a last minute heavyweight tuneup and demolished Matthew Ellis in two rounds at London's ExCeL Arena.
"Although 2009 is going to be a tough economic year, it's going to be full steam ahead for me with developing the future champions of the sport," said Maccarinelli's promoter Frank Warren to the BBC.
