Enzo Maccarinelli is at a serious point in his career. The former cruiserweight champion has been knocked out in two of his last three fights. In March, he was knocked out in brutal fashion by Ola Afolabi, who is not a power puncher. On the the Khan-Kotelnik undercard on June 27, he takes on unbeaten Russian Denis Lebedev at London’s O2 Arena. Macca can't afford another loss.

Macca is taking every possible step to prevent defeat. He dumped Enzo Calzaghe and hired Karl Ince as the new trainer. He switched his training location, heading out to Bolton.

“I trust Karl and trust is a big thing for me. My career has stalled ridiculously and I felt I was ready for a change. I like the way Karl works and so far things have gone really well. I was hurt badly by my last defeat but there was no-one to blame but myself,” Macca said to The Daily Star

“I’m certainly not blaming Enzo. People are trying to say things about me and Enzo but I’ve left with his blessing and he helped me pick Karl. I needed to freshen things up and that’s what I’ve done. People are saying I’m shot now – but I’m in my prime and I’m going to prove it."

Ince told the paper that Macca has the tools to become a champion again.

“It’s a great honour to train Enzo and I’m very confident he can become a world champion again. He’s a very fit lad and we just need to work on a few things defensively,” Ince said.
