(LOS ANGELES, Calif.) - Hank Lundy tells it like it is. So there was no surprise he was as animated and vocal as he was immediately after his bout against Mauricio Herrera on Saturday.
Lundy came up short against Herrera, losing a fifth round technical, majority decision at the Sports Arena. The bout was stopped when the cut above Herrera's right eye was too deemed to bad to continue.
With the loss, Lundy drop 25-5-1, 12 KOs, while Herrera goes to 22-5, 7 KOs.
Like Herrera, Lundy has been on the short end of decisions where those at ringside felt he deserved to win. In his previous fight on December 6, Lundy lost a 10 round split decision to Thomas Dulorme.
Despite the fight lasting less than five rounds, Lundy believed he did enough to win the fight. And he did not pull any punches on Herrera.
"At the end of the day, he wasn't winning," Lundy told BoxingScene.com after the fight. "Let's be serious. Mauricio wasn't winning. But at the end of the day, they had the fix in. I'm the only real one to come into someone's hometown and put on a fight. I don't give a (expletive) about nobody. I came to fight. That's what happened and they stopped the fight. He know he didn't win. First of all, they (Golden Boy) are promoting a drunk. He (drinks). He parties. He's a drunk."
Accusations of a fix are a taboo subject in boxing. Lundy may have been caught in the moment and did not choose his words well at the moment.
If anything, Lundy does agree with Herrera that the fight should have continued. But he was still believes he won the fight and wants a rematch.
"I want a rematch but it's on neutral grounds," said Lundy, who is promoted by Jimmy Burchfield. "Because he didn't beat me. At the end of the day, that (expletive) won't want to fight me. I'm dangerous who hurt him. I don't know if (Ruslan) Provodnikov or Danny (Garcia) hurt him, but when I hit him, you seen his back leg do a dance. He got hurt (in the second round)."
"He wanted a way out anyway. He got confused. When he saw I wasn't brawling and I was boxing, he stood back against the ropes. He didn't know what to do. I had him beat mentally. He thought I was coming in there to brawl. I boxed him. He didn't know what to do. He wanted the way out."
Herrera takes on all comers so he wanted a way out is up for debate. With Herrera focusing on future fights against Ruslan Provodnikov or Lucas Matthysse, it will be interesting to see whether Lundy's request of a rematch will take place.
