Luis Nery and his promoter, Zanfer Promotions of Mexico, are waiting for a resolution from the World Boxing Council (WBC) regarding the boxer's failed drug test.

Nery tested positive for the substance zilpaterol on Aug. 24, after which the Mexican requested to have his “B” sample tested. That sample has also tested positive, and that WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman will officially rule on the case this week.

Yanamaka is potentially going to be reinstated as the WBC bantamweight champion. The 34-year-old, however, has yet to decide on his future since losing the belt, with retirement a possibility.

Zanfer, led by the Tijuana-based Fernando Beltran, insisted that it will provide full support to Nery, standing firm in their position that there is a high probability that the substance that caused failed doping test was digested through contaminated food.

"Three weeks ago we sent the questionnaire that was given to us to detail the movements of Luis Nery, from meals to supplements and everything related to clarify the situation. We trust Luis, we know he is a sportsman who is clean and surely this was a result of contaminated food," said Guillermo Brito, Zanfer's operating vice president, to Erika Montoya.

Brito detailed that now they will have to be in constant communication with the World Boxing Council to find out the next step to clarify the situation, but he appears confident that a similar determination will be made to the situation which took place last year with then WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas, who failed an anti-doping test due eating contaminated meat and was given a pass by the sanctioning body.

Nery hopes that the situation will be resolved soon, because he plans to return to the ring before the end of the year in Tijuana against an opponent to be defined.
