Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera, Mexico City, Mexico - Top rated bantamweight contender Luis 'Panterita' Nery (19-0, 13 KOs) picked up a ten round unanimous decision over Martin “Pini” Casillas (15-7-1, 9 KOs). The scores were 100-88, 99-89, 98-90.
Nery scored two knockdowns with hard left hands, in the first and fourth rounds.
Rhere were plenty of exchanges between the two and the audience stood up on more than one occassion as Casillas took punishment and fought back to hold on.
In the co-feature, the WBO's top rated contender Jose “Chon” Zepeda (25-1, 21 KOs) won a ten round unnaimous decision over Pedro Navarrete (30-22-3, 18 KOs). The scores were 98-92, 97-92 and 97-92.
Zepeda punished Navarrette with hard punches throughout the fight. He nearly finished him off in the tenth and final round with a heavy hook to the liver that sent Navarrette down.
This is Zepeda's second fight of the year. He was back in January with a first round stoppage of former champion Ammeth Diaz.
Zepeda is now hoping to avenge the only defeat of his career, which came at the hands of WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan last July. Zepeda was forced to quit after two rounds due to a dislocated left shoulder.
