Luis "Pantera" Nery exhibited a brutal display of power, and knocked out Filipino Jason Canoy in the third round, in the headliner of the event presented by Zanfer this Saturday, at the Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana, before a large entrance that chanted the surname "Nery, Nery" from the moment he entered the ring.
The former world champion, Nery (27-0-0, 21 KO's), fulfilled his promise to find the fast knockout and started the fight in an explosive manner, sending Canoy to the canvas in the first roun with a powerful hook of left to the jaw.
The so-called "Dillinger" (29-9-0, 19 KO's) fell heavily, on his back, visibly hurt. The condition and the warrior heart of the Filipino allowed him to get up, respond to the punishment and finish the round.
In the second round, Nery lowered the intensity but boxed and repeated punches on Canoy.
In the third, the "Panther" boxed backwards, lowered his guard and threw little. But it was a trap.
Canoy went to the front, and Nery received him with blows of power, and as soon as he caught him, the Filipino resented the punishment. The "Panther" hit a combination of five punches and Canoy visited the canvas near his own corner.
On this occasion, Nery would not let him live. The "Panther" finished him off and repeated punches of power with both hands. Referee Jesus Becerra took pity on Canoy and stopped him at 2:44 minutes of that third round. Canoy was very hurt and suffered his first loss by knockout.
With this triumph, Nery is WBC silver world bantamweight champion, and is in line to dispute the title of the world, which is currently vacant.
