Roseland Ballroom, New York - Puerto Rican prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle (13-0, 10KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Dat Nguyen (17-2, 6KOs) in a featherweight contest. All three judges saw it 99-91 for Del Valle.
Del Valle came out with hard combinations in the first round. He was doing a lot of damage in the and continued to hurt Nguyen in the second round. Nguyen started fighting back to push Del Valle away. Del Valle was going after Nguyen in the third with hard combinations. The face of Nguyen was starting to show serious swelling. In the fourth, Del Valle was throwing a lot of punches. Nguyen was very game and tried to answer back often.
Rounds five through seven were damaging for Nguyen. He took a lot of punishment from Del Valle, who was seriously outworking him with combination punching. Nguyen took a beating to the head and body in the eight round when Del Valle pinned him against the ropes.
Nguyen, possibly making a last stand, came out in the ninth round with both of his hands swinging. He looked good for about thirty seconds before Del Valle took over and started throwing his high volume of combinations. They were trading punches in the tenth and final round. Del Valle was still outworking his opponent and landing a lot more punches.
