Puerto Rico's Luis Cruz (19-1, 15KOs) is looking to recover from the first setback of his pro career. Last November he lost a ten round majority decision to Juan Carlos Burgos. After a month, Cruz has settled in with his new team in the city of Orlando, Florida. The team is led by renowned Cuban coach Pedro Luis Diaz, who trains WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto.
Cruz is integrating into the camp of Cotto, who is currently preparing with Diaz for Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday May 5 in Las Vegas. Cruz has worked tirelessly and has adapted to the changes proposed by his new coach to get a landslide victory against Mexican super featherweight Gerardo Robles (15-10, 7KOs) in the city of Las Vegas on Saturday April 28th at the Plaza Hotel and Casino.
"Luis is working very well in the areas that we [were looking to work on]. He is working under the same team as Cotto. He's evolved very well and I foresee a great future," said the veteran Cuban coach.
"We have tried to coordinate combinations while coming in, varying his shots so he doesn't rely on a single blow, and working with varied movements is what makes a boxer more successful. We also did a good job with his legs which were very stiff."
Cruz added - "I feel very comfortable with my new team. From the very first day they have been working on some adjustments in terms of posture, coordination, balance and how to hit in the most effective ways. In just three and a half weeks, I can see a real change in these areas. And they are highly professional in their work in technical and tactical areas and physical preparation."
