Flyweight contender Luis Concepcion (23-3, 18KOs) is going to arrive with a new state of mind in 2012, according to his trainer Rigoberto Garibaldi. The former WBA champion returns from the worst year of his career. He was defeated twice, and stopped twice, by Hernan "Tyson" Marquez. Prior to facing Marquez, Concepcion had never been stopped.
He fought Marquez in April in a "Fight of The Year" contender, where the boxers exchanged knockdowns before Concepcion was stopped in the eleventh round. He returned in August to stop Manuel vargas in one round. The rematch with Marquez took place in October, and Concepcion was stopped in the first round.
"The guy is coming in with a different mentality this year, because he knows that he needs to improve in some ways to get where he wants to be, which is to be crowned champion again," said Garibaldi, who said that Concepcion has already gone through two weeks of training.
