The former world flyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Panamanian Luis "El Nica" Concepcion, has circulated a letter to announce that he plans to move up to super flyweight. Concepcion (31-3, 22 KOs) was the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver flyweight title.
"As it is known to boxing fans from my past presentations that I've seen in great difficulties in meeting the requirements of the flyweight division, where I am currently the WBC silver champion. I have had to make great sacrifices, which have jeopardized not only my name but also my health. My responsibility to the fans and my love of the sport have been the motivations that have allowed me to get ahead.
Today, however, after meditating and talking with my team, I made the decision to invade the super flyweight category in search of a new world crown. After making 11 world title fights on the flyweight category, I consider it necessary to pursue the possibility of making history in a new division, where I also hope to reign in the future."
"I know I'm making the best decision and I hope to have the support of everyone in this new stage of my career."
