On Sunday afternoon, Panama City's new World Boxing Association (WBA) interim-super flyweight champion Luis "Nica" Concepcion, who dethroned Mexico's David "Tornado" Sanchez by TKO in the tenth on Saturday in Hermosillo, arrived back home to a happy congregation of fans and reporters.
"I want to defend my championship several times because I showed that El Nica Conception is destined for great things and I'm going to keep training and keep winning," Concepcion stated as some of his first words when reporters greeted him at Tocumen.
Concepcion (33-4, 24 KOs), a former WBA flyweight champion, also said he is very satisfied with the accomplishment of dethroning Sanchez (28-3-2, 22 KOs) on foreign soil and becoming a world champion again after having reigned at flyweight.
"During my training I said I was going to become a world champion again. Some people did not believe in me, but no matter what - they can believe in me now," he said with satisfaction.
With that victory at the Multipurpose Center, Concepcion become the first Panamanian win a world championship in Mexico.
The full WBA champion at the weight is Kohei Kono, who defends against Koki Kameda in the coming weeks in America.
