In late October, BoxingScene.com's Rick Reeno documented the release of super middleweight prospect Luis "Cuba" Arias (10-0) from Mayweather Promotions. The story can be found here: https://www.boxingscene.com/luis-arias-sounds-off-on-mayweather-confrontation-video--83675
Arias believes that the release stemmed from his association with the Rahman brothers who have filed a lawsuit against Mayweather due to a lengthy sparring session that was featured on an episode of Showtime's All Access reality show that promoted Mayweather's rematch against Marcos Maidana this past September. As we fast forward to January, BoxingScene.com has been advised that the undefeated super middleweight has brought Gaby Peñagarícano and Rick Torres aboard to serve as his advisors and is looking to resume his promising career.
"I spoke to Rick initially and then later both Rick and Gaby sat down with me and we talked and they told me what they could do for me and they told me about the boxers that they are with already and I said it was a good fit for me so I decided to go with them," Arias stated.
BoxingScene.com also spoke to Peñagarícano, who's clients include four-division champion Miguel Cotto and Tim Bradley, and Rick Torres, who is an Ivy League educated lawyer that has represented promotional powerhouses Top Rank and Golden Boy in his long career and has worked in various capacities in the boxing industry.
"We are excited to be working with a fighter as accomplished as Luis. We are already working on a solid promotional deal for him. He is very talented and will become a strong force in his division very quickly," said Peñagarícano.
Torres feels that Arias is on the fast track to becoming a world champion and that Gaby and his experience in the industry will be the perfect combination to take the fighter to the next level.
"Gaby and I have talked about representing fighters together for awhile and Cuba is the right fighter at the right time. With his outstanding amateur pedigree and strong start to his professional career, we feel we have a fighter that will be a world champion one day," Torres told BoxingScene.com.
Arias said that he hopes to return to the ring in February or March.
