MONTREAL — Undefeated Lucian Bute won the IBF super-middleweight title Friday night, stopping Colombia's Alejandro Berrio in the 11th round at the Bell Centre.

Bute (21-0, 17KOs), the 27-year-old Romanian-born fighter who moved to Montreal in 2003, backed Berrio (26-5, 25KOs) into a corner, rocked him with an uppercut and then battered him until referee Marlon Wright stepped in to stop it.

The 31-year-old Berrio was making his first title defense since taking the vacant 168-pound belt in March when he stopped Germany's Robert Stieglitz. Bute became the mandatory challenger in June with a unanimous decision over Australia's Sakio Bika.
