IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute broke down next month's finale of the Super Six tournament that takes place on Showtime. Andre Ward and Carl Froch will battle it out to decide the champion of the tournament that has taken about 2 years to complete. Bute gave his thoughts on the fight in his recent appearance on The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show.
Bute broke down each fighter's attributes for the listeners. In referring to Ward he said, "Ward has the finesse, power and the understanding of the game." In breaking down Froch he pointed out Froch's size as his biggest advantage. "Froch is a strong guy and is very big. He can take a punch."
Ward is the betting favorite in the fight and Bute is also leaning towards the Oakland, California native coming out with the victory. He isn't counting out Froch by any means as he feels the Brit's power may prove to be too much for Ward.
"If he (Ward) can take Froch's punches then he should win. If he can't take his punches then we may have a very interesting fight," said Bute.
Froch has said numerous times that he wants to face the winner of the Super Six tournament. That is one of the reasons that Showtime signed him to a three fight contract. If for some reason the Montreal, Canada based fighter can't secure a fight with the tournament winner he already has came up with a back up plan.
"I definitely want to fight the winner of the tournament," stated Bute. "If for some reason I can't fight the winner then maybe I will fight the loser."
