Junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse appeared on an Argentine radio station and discussed one of his career goals, to avenge an amateur loss to current WBA-interim champion Marcos Maidana. They fought in the amateurs as very young boxers, with Maidana winning a close decision. [The background to this fight can read by Clicking Here .]
"I would like to fight Marcos 'El Chino' Maidana. He is a champion and it would be good to fight for that title. The people of Argentina want to see that fight. Hopefully someday it will happen," Matthysse said.
Matthysse returns from a recent split decision loss to Devon Alexander. Many felt Matthysse did enough to win. He felt the judges robbed him in the fight with Alexander, and in his prior loss a few months back to Zab Judah. There are now talks for Matthysse to face Kendall Holt on the Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson card on October 15 in New Jersey.
"I think it was all prepared for Alexander. The judges knew that if we went to the cards, they had to give it to him. Many people in boxing congratulated me. But I am bitter about the scores that were given by the judges. It's pretty complicated for me to fight in the United States. I think the last two fights hurt me. If you don't score a knockout, then you don't stand a chance [to win]," Matthysse said.
"I have to talk to my manager, Mario Arano, who told me that I will fight in the near future in Argentina. [My next fight] might also be in the United States because the people of HBO congratulated me."
