Former interim-WBC super lightweight world champion Lucas Matthysse (38-4, 35 KOs) spoke with reporter Carlos Santos for Ring Side on Air on Radio La Red (AM 910) about the future of his career.

Matthysse returned to the ring in May, when he knocked out Emmanuel Taylor as part of the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. undercard at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He bounced in style, after suffering a bad eye injury and a knockout loss to Viktor Postol in a WBC title fight back in the fall of 2015.

It was Matthysse first bout in the welterweight division. As part of the win, Matthysse captured the WBA Inter-Continental and WBO International titles.

The victory allowed Matthysse to receive a top ranking in three of the sanctioning bodies. Matthysse is now ranked 2nd in the WBO, 4th in the WBA and 8th in the WBC, so he now has a running start for a world title shot and may soon see a world title eliminator.

There is now some discussion that Matthysse could fight on the biggest undercard of the year, on September 16 at T-Mobile, when Canelo challenges IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight king Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.

"Last week, I returned to training here in Trelew. I'm already doing double shifts, preparing for my next fight," Matthysse said.

"I still do not know anything, I did not talk to anyone. I know I have to travel to the United States with Mario Arano to see what my next fight will be.

"It would be very nice to fight as part of the Canelo-Golovkin card, on such a great evening. But I have to see what they say. I am happy to defend my Argentine flag again, along with Brian Castaño and other boxers around the world."
