At the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Lovemore Ndou retained his IBO welterweight title with a twelve round split decision over the previously unbeaten power-puncher Bongani Mwelase. The scores were 115-113 and 117-112 for Ndou and 115-113 for Mwelase.
Ndou used veteran tactics to steal rounds by throwing quick flurries at the start and at the end of each round. He countered well and did not allow Mwelase to use his size and reach advantage by keeping the fight at the right range. Mwelase could never get enough punches going and allowed Ndou to outwork him.
Ndou raised his record to 48-11-2, with 31 knockouts. Mwelase drops to 14-1, 12KOs.
