Oakland, California – The lightweight Lorenzo Powell stopped Javier Rojas Campos in the first round of their fight on Saturday night at the Marriott City Center in Oakland. The time of the stoppage was 1:30.

Powell, a 22 year old from Sacramento, California and who won a national title as an amateur, swarmed Campos to start the fight. Powell got Campos on the ropes as a right hook to the body sent the Mexican to the canvas, where he unable to beat the count.

Powell improves to 5-0 (2 KOs). His first four fights had been in Stockton, California. Campos, the 27-year-old from Mexico, falls to 3-5 (1 KO).

On the undercard, Oakland’s light-heavyweight prospect Kumar Prescod fought to a technical draw with Michael Nelson of College Park, Georgia, after an accidental head clash caused a cut on Nelson that forced the action to stop. The bout was called off at the start of the third round by the ringside physician. The fight had to go four rounds to be scored by the judges.

Prescod, 18, is 3-0-1 (3 KOs), and Nelson, 33, is 4-2-1 (2 KOs).

The veteran middleweight Aaron Coley of Hayward, California, won a six-round unanimous decision over Sacramento’s Moris Rodriguez. The three scores were 60-54.

Coley, 34, ended a near-three-year layoff and improved to 17-5-1 (7 KOs), Rodriguez, 35, falls to 8-18-3 (5 KOs).

Oakland’s Tony Hirsch Jnr had by then knocked out David Reyes Cota of Sonora, Mexico, in the second round. Hirsch dropped Cota in the second with a right uppercut, and the bout was stopped at 1:39 after a barrage of punches from Hirsch that went unanswered.

Hirsch, 24, is the son of the former pro fighter Tony Hirsch Snr and improves to 6-0-2 (4 KOs), Cota, 30, falls to 25-14-2 (13 KOs).
