At the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, Josesito Lopez (23-3, 14KOs) and Alexis Cruz (23-32-4, 18KOs) helped christen the newly opened Citizens Business Bank Arena with the first bout of the night. Lopez wasted no time as he bounced back from a loss in April by outgunning an overwhelmed Cruz to a 2nd round TKO. After a mix of combinations, the Riverside native put Cruz down twice forcing the referee to put a halt to the bout.
Another Mexican Heavyweight was in action as Bakersfield resident Manuel “El Toro” Quezada outpointed Nigerian “African Prince” Oruh over 10 rounds. Quezada who improved to 25-4, 15KOs controlled the fight with his jab and right hand as Oruh had no answer and fell to 14-2-1, 6KOs.
In one of the more exciting fights of the night, heralded prospect Mike Dallas Jr (5-0-1, 5KOs) would have to dig deep as he did battle with a game Jose Alfredo Lugo (10-5-1, 5KOs) over 6 action filled rounds. Both men continuously traded shots in the middle of the ring much to the delight of the robust crowd as Dallas seemed to be winning the exchanges earlier on but also catching fire in return.
Dallas unleashed his arsenal of lead rights, hooks and rips to the body on the Los Mochis, Sinaloa Mexico native but Lugo continued to press on. In the 5th and 6th rounds however, Lugo returned the favor as he pinned Dallas on the ropes and punished a weary Dallas Jr with his own combinations. After a close fight, a Majority Draw was the verdict as 1 judge had it 58-56 for Dallas and 2 scored it 57-57.
2008 Olympian Shawn Estrada (1-0, 1KO) had an explosive professional debut as he disposed of Lawrence Jones (2-1-1, 1KOs) in exactly 1 minute of the first round. Estrada started fast and pinned Jones in the corner as he unleashed a barrage of punches that eventually made Jones drop as the referee stepped in to stop the fight as he recorded his first professional win.
