WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez has yet to receive confirmation that Gerry Penalosa will be his next opponent. The fight is scheduled to take place in April in Puerto Rico. The date of April 4 has often been mentioned, but now April 25 is also in play. Penalosa is expected to vacate his WBO bantamweight title to rise in weight for the Juanma showdown. Fernando Montiel and Eric Morel would then battle for Penalosa's vacant belt.
Ivan Rivera, president of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, said Lopez's co-promoter, Top Rank, has not yet confirmed that Penalosa will be the April opponent.
"What I've heard and what I've read in some media is that Top Rank has already made an offer to Penalosa to fight Juanma in Puerto Rico and that, apparently, Penalosa accepted it. But they have not sent us a contract and they have not told us about the terms for the fight. Juanma has no objection to fight Penalosa, but Top Rank has still not confirmed it," Rivera told Primera Hora.
