BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Egis Klimas who's deep stable of fighters includes Sergey Kovalev, Vasyl Lomachenko, Evgeny Gradovich and many others.
Lomachenko (3-1, 1KO), who holds the WBO featherweight title, had a very successful 2014. He lost a split decision against Orlando Salido, who missed making weight, in March but rebounded with dominant decision victories over the previously undefeated Gary Russell Jr. in June and then Chonlatam Piriyapinyo this past weekend.
WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (25-0, 21KOs) also burst onto the scene with an impressive run in 2014. The Jamaican scored brutal stoppage victories over former multi-division champions Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire.
Klimas feels that both fighters are still making a name for themselves and feels that both parties would be better served with another fight or two before they face each other.
"I think both of them need to get a bigger name even though Lomachenko is already a champion and Nicholas Walters is a champion. Where are we going to put a fight like that? Looking from a promoter's point of view, that would probably be the main event of the evening on an HBO fight. Where are you going to put that fight? If you go to New York not too many people are going to know Lomachenko or Walters. In Las Vegas it is the same thing.
"I think they need to get a little bit more exposure. Ideally they can fight some time in March one more time and build their names first and maybe fight again before they fight. We are not in a hurry for that fight. If it happens at the end of next year that is fine," Klimas told BoxingScene.com.
