Carson, California - One could make an argument that there has been no better job done with promoting a fighter in the last five years than what Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, has accomplished with Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s).

Golovkin appeared on HBO for the first time in September of 2012 in a small arena from Verona, New York. Since then he has sold out venues in Southern California while growing his popularity in New York so much that in his second time at the big room in Madison Square Garden, he is expected to sell out his first pay-per-view bout.

“Two weeks away, only about 200 tickets left but we’ll sell out,” A jovial Tom Loeffler told BoxingScene.com.

While there are big plans ahead for Golovkin, Loeffler knows that his opponent, David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s) will likely pose one punch type of power that Golovkin has yet to face in his career.

“We can’t take anything away from him (Lemiuex), he’s stepping up and actually fighting Gennady,” explained the promoter. “A lot of people say they want to get in there with Gennady but say they’d do it next or next year so he’s making a statement by getting in with him, and the fans have certainly reacted to the event. He’s helping with ticket sales and we’re really excited with two weeks to go.”

Though the winner of the unification bout becomes the mandatory for the victor of Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez, Loeffler says in boxing nothing is ever guaranteed.

“Whoever wins the fight is mandated by the WBC to fight the winner of Cotto and Canelo,” stated Loeffler. But this is boxing and you never know as we found out last year with the Chavez fight is that you can’t force someone to get in the ring with Gennady.  We believe whoever he fights will be a huge event for next year.”

But whoever is next, Loeffler said it’s a good time to be a middleweight fighter with the fights that are upcoming and can be made in the future.

“Jacobs-Quillin, it’s a great fight. That’s why we’re excited about the middleweight division. You got Andy Lee defending against BJ Saunders, you got Gennady and Lemieux, Cotto and Canelo and then you got Quillin and Jacobs. It’s a great time to be in the middleweight division.”
