Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions expects IBO/IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) to have at least three fights before meeting Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs) next September.

There is a verbal agreement between the camps of the two fighters for a September 2017 pay-per-view encounter. Of course, because it's a verbal deal there is nothing legally binding either boxer to stay on course with that fight.

Golovkin is back on September 10th at the O2 Arena in London, when he faces IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.

If everything works out as planned in September, Loeffler advised BoxingScene.com that he plans to bring Golovkin back in November or December. Following that, expect to see Golovkin fight again in the first four months of 2017. Golovkin's opponents beyond Brook are unknown, but eventually the WBA will order him to face WBA 'regular' champion Daniel Jacobs.

"Gennady would have at least three fights by the time he'd fight Canelo," Loeffler told BoxingScene.com.

Canelo is also back in September, facing WBO junior middleweight world champion Liam Smith at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. If Canelo walks away with the WBO belt, he will likely return at the end of the year as well - possibly at the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds against WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders. Canelo then plans to fight in May 2017, as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend.
