Professional boxing returns for the final time to Orange County this year with a world title bout and two fighters looking to break through in 2014.
Super featherweight Lizette Medel will fight Melisenda Perez in a scheduled 10 round bout inside the Hangar at the OC Fair in Costa Mesa, CA. Also on the card will be super middleweight contender Maxim Vlasov.
The bout will headline a six bout “OC Fight Club” card, presented by Roy Englebrect Promotions.
This will be the first time Medel has fought a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. She has fought past six rounds and she has only done that three times.
Medel (8-1-1), of Maywood, CA, has not fought since October of last year, when she defeated Cynthia Munoz by unanimous decision over six rounds in Ontario, CA.
Medel is unbeaten in her last seven bouts since suffering her only defeat of her career, a four round split decision to Tammy Franks in December of 2006.
Perez has had a longer layoff from the ring than Medel. She has not fought since June of last year, when she won a six round majority decision over Elisa Moreno.
Perez, (8-5-1, 4 KOs) from Kansas City, MO, was fighting as high as 154 pounds two years ago. She unsuccessfully challenged WBO titleholder Hanna Gabriel twice, losing both times by technical knockout late in those bouts.
In the co-feature bout, Maxim Vlasov will fight Maxell Taylor in a scheduled eight round bout.
The Russian-born Vlasov (27-1, 13 KOs), who now trains in Oxnard, CA, is ranked in the top 10 in two of the sanctioning bodies and number 12 in a third body.
Vlasov has won his last right bouts in a row since a 10 round unanimous decision loss to Isaac Chilemba in February of 2011.
In his last bout on November 4th, Vlasov stopped Artem Redko in the sixth round of a scheduled 10 round bout in Krasnodar, Russia.
Taylor (18-5-1, 8 KOs), who hails from Baltimore, MD, was stopped by Phillip Jackson Benson in the seventh round in his last bout on May 11th.
Taylor has fought some name fighters with mixed results. He fought to a six round split decision draw against Derek Ennis in March of 2006, was stopped by Donovan George in April of 2011, and stopped former fringe contender Purcell Miller one month later.
In a scheduled eight round heavyweight bout, unbeaten Alexander Flores (13-0, 11 KOs) will fight Aaron Lyons in a scheduled eight round bout. Flores has stopped his last nine opponents in a row. Lyons (12-13-1, 9 KOs) has lost his last four bouts in a row.
Unbeaten lightweights Dwain Williams (3-0, 1 KO) and Danny Ramirez (3-0, 2 KOs) square off in a scheduled five round bout.
Two more bouts (one of them is an MMA bout) round out the card.
Doors open at 6:30PM, with the first bell scheduled for 6:45PM. Tickets start at $50 and could be purchased by calling (949) 760-3131.
