WBA super featherweight champion Jorge Linares (26-0, 17KOs) is ready to make the first defense of his title on May 9 against Josafat Perez (12-1, 7KOs) at Plaza de Toros in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Linares shouldn't have any problems in the contest. Perez is inexperienced and coming off a split-decision loss to journeyman Julio Cesar Sanchez Leon (29-17).

Linares is taking it as a keep-busy fight while trying to position line for a much bigger fight in the year.
