WBC president Jose Sulaiman told the Bangkok Post that if WBC featherweight champion Injin Chi moves forward with his retirement from boxing, undefeated Jorge Linares, who recently knocked out Oscar Larios to become the interim-champ, will be given full championship status.
Chi, 34, announced that he was going to retire from the sport of boxing and enter the world of K-1 and Mixed Martial Arts.
Sulaiman is currently locked in talks with the South Korea Boxing Commission to try and resolve the matter. Many were banking on Chi's involvement in a huge Thailand card on Dec. 5, where he was slated to defend the title against Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.
Chi has not see action since December of last year and has been unable to defend the belt due to a hand injury.
