Liam Wilson has no doubt that another shot at the WBO junior lightweight title is in his future.

His only request is that it once again comes versus its current claimant, if only for a shot at revenge.

“Emanuel Navarrete can hold my belt until we meet again,” Wilson told BoxingScene.com. “I know my destiny. Now it’s time to deliver.”

For now, the Queensland native is focused on a return to the win column. Wilson faces Argentina’s Carlos Alanis (12-0, 4KOs) in a scheduled ten-round junior lightweight bout this Wednesday from Hordern Park in Sydney. The fight is packaged with the Nikita Tszyu-Jack Brubaker clash as part of a Main Event Pay-Per-View as presented by No Limit Boxing.

It will mark the first piece of ring action for Wilson (11-2, 7KOs) since his heartbreaking ninth-round knockout defeat to Mexico’s Navarrete (38-1, 31KOs) this past February 3 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The 27-year-old saw his U.S. debut nearly end with a title win, as Navarrete suffered the first knockdown of his career late in the fourth-round of their instant classic. Navarrete beat the count and proceeded to drop and stop Wilson in the ninth round of their vacant title fight. It ended a modest two-fight win streak as Wilson returned home empty-handed but more confident than ever that he belongs among the best junior lightweights in the world.

Navarrete retained his WBO title in a well-earned, unanimous decision victory over Oscar Valdez on August 12 also at Desert Diamond Arena. Eleven days later, Wilson plans to move towards a desired rematch, assuming Navarrete is still in the division once he’s able to re-enter the title picture.

“I have a new direction, unbelievable clarity and the same unbreakable focus,” insisted Wilson, who has the backing of Glenn Jennings and the rest of the team behind unbeaten and soon-to-be-crowned WBO junior middleweight titlist Tim Tszyu. “I’m pumped to be back in the ring, I have a whole new outlook on my future and I’m coming to get what’s rightfully mine.

“I’m excited for what lies ahead. I will be busy waiting my time whilst perfecting my craft. 2024, I’m coming for those straps.”
