The former WBO super welterweight champion says he is a level above his Welsh rival ahead of their April 8 showdown that is live on BT Sport.
Liam Smith has warned boxing pundits they will “look silly” if they tip Liam Williams to beat him.
The super welterweights clash for the interim WBO world title on BT Sport’s huge show at the Manchester Arena on April 8 in a bout many experts believe could be a contender for fight of the year.
But Smith, who held world title before being stopped by Saul Alvarez last September, says he is a level above his Welsh rival and will prove it on the night.
A lot of people are going to look silly when this fight is over," said Smith. "I'm confident on my behalf that this is not a 50-50 fight.
"After the fight everyone will see why I should have been the clear favourite. Believe me, I'm going to beat Liam Williams."
Smith, who is part of the famous fighting Smith family that includes super-middleweight contender Callum, has also hinted that Williams’ camp are in chaos heading into the bout.
"I'm doing everything that I have always done - I haven't changed a thing. Liam and his team have changed everything. Everything they are doing is new to them, don't be surprised if they leave it all in the gym.
"I think they are panicking because they know they are in a fight. They are trying to cover everything. I saw he was doing 18 rounds over two days around six or seven weeks out from the fight. That isn't what Liam and Gary Lockett are usually like.”
