Well-known matchmaker/agent Sampson Lewkowicz has told MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com that Alexander Abraham should apologize to Edison Miranda and the American boxing fans for his "cowardly act" last Saturday at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.
Following his brother Arthur's fourth-round knockout of Miranda, Alexander entered the ring and taunted a prone Miranda who was laying on the ground and receiving medical attention from a ringside physician. He then kicked at a defenseless Miranda in a move the nearly incited a riot. As Randall Bailey and several others came to Miranda's aid, security and other observers quickly stepped in and prevented an all-out brawl from taking place.
Alexander was arrested was later arrested by the Seminole Tribal Police and then turned over to the Broward County Sheriffs and taken to a local jail. The Broward County Sheriffs' office informed BoxingScene that he was charged with "resisting officers/obstruction" and released on Sunday morning, around 11am, after bail was posted in the amount of $100.00 dollars.
Sauerland Event [Abraham's promoters] have denied the claims. Alexander would issue a statement claiming that he was attacked by chair swinging individuals who were affiliated with Miranda. The chair swinging story has been disputed by almost every ringside observer with a clear view of the incident.
Miranda's co-manager Steve Benbasat told BoxingScene that Alexander was shouting numerous death threats in their direction. Benbasat also saw Alexander kick at Miranda, as did unified lightweight champion Nate Campbell who sitting ringside with his wife. Alexander, like his brother Arthur, is a pro boxer with an unbeaten junior middleweight record of 21-0-1 and 15 knockouts.
"I saw it with my own eyes [Alexander kick at Miranda]. I tried to approach [the ring], but I was stopped by security and couldn't see any more. I have the utmost respect for Sauerland Event. The Sauerland executives are honorable men, they are gentlemen and they did the right thing - they were in the neutral corner celebrating with their champion. What was Alexander doing in the blue corner while everyone else on his team was celebrating in the neutral corner? He is a coward. And then he doesn't do the honorable thing and apologize. Instead he denies it. He should apologize to Edison Miranda, the American fans and Warriors Boxing," Lewkowicz said.
"Edison Miranda is a like a son to me. I'll be more than happy to let my guy Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (43-1, 23KOs) kick his ass on my behalf and for Edison. Alexander doesn't have to worry, I won't let anyone kick him on the floor when Martinez knocks him out."
Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing issued his own statement on the matter.
"It is a shame that Arthur's brilliant performance and first fight in the United States was marred by the disgraceful and cowardice acts of his brother Alexander. Arthur is a great person and champion who needs to be careful and not let people around him who will hurt his reputation," said Margules.
