WBF World middleweight and WBO Asia Pacific champion Les “Lock N Load” Sherrington, along with trainer Brendon Smith and team have arrived in Townsville ahead of Friday nights showdown against Esteban Ponce at the Townsville RSL Stadium.
This will mark the first bout for 2013 for Sherrington who is coming off impressive victories against Mexican Legend Yuri Boy Campas and most recently an 8th round stoppage of Philippine star Randy Suico capping off a stellar 2012.
However Friday night presents a new challenge in the form of dangerous Argentinian Esteban Ponce, but “Lock N Load” says he is feeling ready.
“I’m feeling very confident and excited to be fighting again in my hometown of Townsville” said Sherrington.
“It has been an unbelievable training camp, I’m the fittest I have ever been and I can’t wait for Friday night”.
Accompanying Sherrington, is stable mate Jack “The Assassin” Asis, who also has a big fight on Sherrington’s undercard Friday night.
Asis who is on a roll of late with 6 straight wins including KO wins over USA’s Nestor Rocha and Japans Ryeusi Yoshida as well as a decision victory over the previously undefeated Maxsaisai Sithsaithong, is also confident over what will be the biggest fight of his career against Indonesian hardman Rivo Rengkung.
“I’m very happy,” said Asis.
“There is no more time for talk, it is time to fight”.
Trainer Brendon Smith says he is very happy with the lead up his boys have had ahead of Friday night.
“They have trained very well,” said Smith.
“The team is very relaxed, we have had a good trip and now we can settle in and focus on the job at hand”.
