Although the smashing second round KO win by IBF Pan Pacific lightweight champion Rankee “ KO Kid” Ganoy to avenge an earlier unanimous decision loss to Thailand’s Somchai Nakbalee made Filipinos in Australia proud, three others boxers were beaten while one newcomer made his mark with a TKO win according to the results from Boxrec.
Super bantamweight Ernie Gonzales Jr scored a first round TKO win in a scheduled six round bout against Omari Kimweri of Tanzania who is based in Adelaide. It was the first win of Gonzales who improved to 1-1-1 with 1 KO while Kimweri dropped to 1-1 with 0 KO’s.
In Cronulla, Sydney light welterweight Jayson Oyao lost by a third round TKO to Steven “The Surgeon” Willis, a 5’10” southpaw who improved his record to 5-1 with 3 knockouts while Oyao dropped to 1-2 with 1 KO. Significantly both losses of the Filipino were by stoppages. Referee Les Fear called a halt at 31 seconds of round three.
In Ingleburn, also in Sydney, Roberto Lerio lost a ten round unanimous decision in a battle for the vacant WBF International super bantamweight title to undefeated Davey Browne who reportedly stands 5’11 ½” and now has a record of 10-0-1 with 3 knockouts. Lerio who is listed as a super flyweight obviously moved up in weight to fight Browne who is himself listed as a featherweight. Lerio dropped to 5-5 with 2 knockouts.
Browne was coming off a unanimous eight round unanimous decision over Robert Oyan last November 17 while Lerio lost by a ninth round TKO in his last bout against Richard Olisa.
