Three division world champion Leo Santa Cruz (31-0-1, 17KOs) has arrived in Kunming, China for the 53 Annual Convention of the World Boxing Council. He plans to inform the WBC that he intends to vacate the championship at super bantamweight, and plans to remain in the featherweight division.

Santa Cruz moved up in weight to capture the WBA's vacant featherweight title with a twelve round decision over Southern California rival Abner Mares on August 29th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

On the undercard, Julio Ceja knocked out Hugo Ruiz to pick up the WBC's interim-title at 122-pounds.

For the last two months there was confusion as to which division Santa Cruz would occupy. Things are now clear.

"I came to thank the World Boxing Council and [WBC President] Mauricio Sulaiman, who gave me the opportunity to be champion of the world and to ask that in the future I can receive the opportunity to once again fight for one of their championships, which is what every boxer dreams about," Santa Cruz told ESPN Deportes. "I will definitely stay at 126 pounds."
