According to promoter Yvon Michel, who is currently in Cancun, Mexico at the WBC's 48th annual convention, the current WBC International middleweight champion David Lemieux (24-0) will be involved in a final eliminator. The WBC has effectively sanctioned a fight between elimination bout between Lemieux and Marco Antonio Rubio (48-5-1) of Mexico.
Yvon Michel said he wants to meet with the Rubio's promoter at the convention to discuss the eliminator. In the event of a quick agreement, this battle could be staged as soon as December 3rd, when Lemieux is scheduled to see action on the second edition of the "Fast & Furious" series at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The other two events in this series will take place on February 11 and April 8, 2011. They will be broadcast live via ESPN2.
In addition, Yvon Michel also confirmed that the WBC made a ruling that the championship bout of the world between WBC light heavyweight belt-holder Jean Pascal (26-1-0), and WBC Emeritus champion Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1), will have the WBC's Diamond belt at stake. The fight is scheduled for December 18.
