While it has been reported that David Lemieux's fight versus James De La Rosa was cancelled after he missed the contracted weight earlier today there are still efforts being made to salvage this fight.
"It's being worked out, they're working on it,"said Eric Gomez, the V.P. of Golden Boy Promotions, who co-promotes Lemieux with Eye of the Tiger Promotions. They're trying to find a compromise, we'll know later today."
A couple of hour ago it was believed that Francy Ntetu would be the replacement for De La Rosa, who refused to face Lemieux at the heavier weight, but that request has been denied by the local commission. According to Gomez, De La Rosa, still has not been completely ruled out.
"Not yet, we're waiting for confirmation on whether he'll do it or not. They're trying to compromise with him. We'll know soon,"said Gomez, who says extra financial compensation has been offered to De La Rosa to go through with the bout."Yes, of course, when things like this happen there's always negotiations and you try to save the event."
There was talk of Lemieux, who's coming off an October 17th loss to Gennady Golovkin, appearing on the Saul Alvarez-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard on May 7th in Las Vegas. Those plans are still very much in play.
"We're committed to David Lemieux, he's with Golden Boy. We're very, very happy with him. He's someone that the fans are really behind when he fights. So yeah, there's still a possibility he'll fight May 7th,"stated Gomez.
