On May 7th, former super lightweight champion Amir "King" Khan (31-3, 19KOs) will move up 8 pounds in weight to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) at a catchweight of 155 pounds for the WBC middleweight title. The HBO distributed pay-per-view will air live from the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip.
David Lemieux, who faces Glen Tapia in the co-feature bout, is very interested in the outcome of the main event. He said he was a little skeptical of the Brit's chances until he saw how big he looks in recent pictures.
"Definitely Khan is a great fighter and Canelo is a great fighter. It is going to be a fight with two very good fighters. I am actually excited to see the outcome of the fight.
"Khan looks pretty big in camp now. At first he looked small but now he's big. It is going to be interesting. We all know Canelo is a very good fighter and Khan also is a good fighter but, 'can he take a punch,' is everyone's question. 'Im excited to see what happens," said Lemieux.
If Canelo, who is a -450 favorite at some sports books in Las Vegas, wins the fight, Lemieux could be a potential future opponent for Mexican star.
The 27-year-old Lemieux said that he would be interested but only at the full middleweight weight limit of 160 pounds.
"I want to fight the top middleweights. With 160 (pounds) being the middleweight division. They are in my way so if the fight happens lets do it," Lemieux told BoxingScene.com.
