The latest Savarese Boxing Promotions card will see several prospects do battle in front of their homegrown fans tonight at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City.
Flyweight Juan Leija (11-2-1, 3 KOs) faces Gilberto Mendoza (5-4-2, 1 KO) over eight rounds in the main event. A former Texas flyweight champion, Leija is coming back from an upset defeat against Sam Gutierrez in May.
Eugene Hill (31-1, 21 KOs) takes on Grover Young (12-16-2, 8 KOs) in an eight-round heavyweight bout. A pro since 2006, Hill, 37, has been stranded in a rut fighting mostly journeymen of Young's caliber for the duration of his nine-year career.
In other bouts:
Heavyweight Justin Ledet (4-0, 2 KOs) faces Roy McCrary (4-5, 3 KOs) in over four rounds.
Welterweight Ramiro Huerta (3-0-1, 1 KO) fights Miguel Pizarro (2-14, 1 KO).
Kenneth Allen (1-0) takes on William Durham (0-3) in a four-round cruiserweight bout.
Heavyweight Jeremy Hardy makes his pro debut against Larry Knight (1-2, 1 KO).
And middleweights Aziz Izabkiyev and Brandon McDuffy will face each other in their pro debuts.
