Joe Selkirk is set to return from an eight-month injury layoff before the end of the year.
The former WBO European super welterweight champion has been out of action since a stoppage victory over Yuri Pompilio in April at Liverpool’s ECHO Arena.
Selkirk, 13-0 (7), suffered a hand injury in that fight and has had surgery on it to repair the long-standing problem, but is now scheduled to return, live and exclusive on BoxNation.
He’ll box at the Manchester Arena on December 19, as part of the undercard to Frank Warren’s ‘Xmas Cracker’ card over six rounds as he builds up towards a big 2016, replacing former WBA interim champion Derry Mathews, who was set for action over eight rounds but withdrew to focus on his world title challenge against Terry Flanagan for the WBO lightweight title in February.
It is believed that a title fight is being lined up for 30-year-old Selkirk in the early part of the New Year, the finer details of which are to be revealed in due course, should the Danny Vaughan-trained Liverpudlian come through this outing unscathed.
