Sources out of Mexico have advised BoxingScene.com that Lee Selby (21-1, 8KOs) will make the first defense of the IBF featherweight world title against former two-division world champion Fernando Montiel (54-4-2, 39KOs) of Mexico.
The fight is going to take place in the United States, possibly on a date in October, and likely as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card but the network is unknown at the moment.
Selby captured the title in May with an eight round technical decision over previously undefeated Evgeny Gradovich.
A few weeks after the Gradovich victory, Selby became the latest UK fighter to sign a contract with powerful manager/adviser Al Haymon.
Montiel, ranked at #11 by the International Boxing Federation, has won ten of his last eleven fights since suffering a knockout in two rounds to Nonito Donaire in 2011.
