At the Newport Leisuire Centre in Newport, Wales, Lee Haskins (20-2, 10KOs) picked up the Commonwealth super flyweight title, adding it to the British crown around his waist, by winning a twelve round decision over previously undefeated Don Broadhurst (11-1, 3KOs). The scores were 117-113, 116-113 and 116-113.

By all accounts, the fight was tough to watch with a lot of holding, rough tactics and very little clean action. Haskins was landing the cleaner punches and doing more work in the majority of the fight.

On the undercard, Tony Jeffries and David Price won their fights with easy first round knockouts. Heavyweight Price needed 33 seconds to stop Dimitrijs Basovs. Jeffries dropped Andrejs Tolstihs three times before the fight was stopped at 2:17 of the round.
