HBO’s ringside scorer Harold Lederman is a big fan of power-punching former 105- and 108-pound titleholder Roman Gonzalez, and he’s hoping that his employer will begin to spotlight the fighter in his campaign in the flyweight division.

“He’s something special,” Lederman told BoxingScene.com. “He’s up to 38-0 now [with 32 knockouts]. I mean, to me, he’s the second coming of Michael Carbajal. We all remember the great fights that Michael Carbajal had against Chiquita Gonzalez when we did buy flyweight fights on HBO [Carbajal and Gonzalez were lineal champions at junior flyweight].

“I mean, those were three of the greatest fights anybody ever saw. People are still talking about Chiquita Gonzalez-Michael Carbajal. And now we’ve got a chance to do it again with Roman Gonzalez. I just think that we can’t pass him up. He’s something special. I’d love to see him on HBO.”

So does Lederman have the pull to make it happen?

“I’ve tried numerous times, and I’m not having any success whatsoever,” Lederman said. “But when Roman Gonzalez fights on HBO, blame it on me.”
